Zamba’s 6th Republican president in one of his social media posts , said , Ubuntu in us Africans – Ubuntu literally means Humanity or Humility. In 2015 the people voted for him on his humility, they saw the Ubuntu in him and felt they can relate to a humble leader .
As the Zulu Adage says ” UBUNTU NGUMUNTU NGABANTU ” Literally translating , ‘ we are human because of the other humans ‘ . Ubuntu embodies all virtues that maintain harmony and the spirit of sharing amongst members of the African society, it means the appreciation of traditional beliefs and a constant awareness that an individual actions today are a reflection on the past and far reaching consequences on the future.
As one Zimbabwean historian said ( Stanlake JWT Samkange ) , If one is faced with a decisive choice between wealth and and preservation of life of another human being he should opt for the latter . The king owes his status including all his powers associated with to the will of the people, Meaning people in higher authority must must owe their status to the people who respresent alas they seem to be a Huge disconnect between the rulers and the people they rule. Lacking the ‘ Ubuntu ‘ in the them , thinking whoever sides with the poor suffering majority has been paid by people who oppose those in the corridors of power .
With the dawn of social media and smart phones , we have seem to have lost our ‘ Ubuntuness ‘ where instead of preserving the life of the accident victims one decides to take photographs and videos than preserving the life , Lets bring back Ubuntuness in Us .
